Losi 5b
« on: July 14, 2018, 10:00:50 AM »
I'm just putting the feelers out for the future.
Moving from Baja 2wd and interested in 4wd buggies.
I'm interested in the TLR 5 B  Any honest reviews and feedback would be great.
Pro's, Cons etc
Thanks

Pro’s
Cheap
Strong
Parts easy to get

Con’s
Heat issues
TLR never addressed the heat problems that have plaiged 5ive buggy’s, even back in the early days when guys were converting trucks to buggy’s. You will spend a lot of time trying to get the heat under control.

Does exhaust wrapping help?
Plus I must say other guys at the club cut the plastic front window out
I'm assuming for this reason?

I believe there is a different body shell you can get now that does address the heat issue. The name escapes me at the minute but pete from Aussie hobbies sells them. They are similar to the 30 degree north bodys in their make up.

I did manage to cure the heating issue with these. A bolt on heat shield for the pipe. I did only use on the Olimat pipe though

Still disappointing TLR sold the buggy kit knowing it suffered a major heat issue, and still to this day have not addressed the problem and still sell the kit.

THE tlr 5B was discontinued in February 2018 we are waiting to see what they are doing as it was not a good seller due to only being good for racing

It's a great buggy James got mine last October. been racing full time this year they take a beating and I love it. Heat issues yes you can buy a heat deflector from Aussie hobbies or like me make one from a empty Degreaser can 😂 it's amazing how much hot air deflects out
Next  race meet walk around and look at others
You can get great 2nd hand ones at half the price of a new set up
Don't you like 2wd James?

As crazy as it is, I find 2wd Baja frustrating LOL. This could be due to the fact my skills aren't great yet (Yes, practice makes perfect)
Prior to Baja large scale, I have been playing around with 1/8 AWD electric buggies for a while. And at my club, have seen how the 5b's get around the track.

The issue currently is the distributor (i know i know *flog*) if ddm can sell one for $750 usd, and our distributor discounts theirs by $350  and its still $2k plus its a bit ridiculous.

The advertising still revolves around racing  better to read "good all round car that also complies with ????? race rules"at affordable price. There are Losi 5b basher groups on FB not many bad comments
