Hi all, in need of some help.
« on: April 23, 2018, 03:12:53 PM »
Hello everyone, I'm new here and after some advise.
I have a HPI 5SC, the trouble I'm having is that after about 8-10mins of running, the engine starts to cut out after backing off from full throttle.
As in braking to turn or just backing off the throttle in general after a full throttle squirt. The engine starts and runs fine at idle or half throttle.
The car is was still sporting the original 2 bolt 26, I have installed a ZEN 30.5 rooster that I had stored after I destroyed my first rovan job (run off into a fence at full noise) and it still has the same problem!? I'm thinking some sort of fuel issue?
Anyone got some advise??

Sounds like the fuel lines are mixed around

Thanks for the reply Dan.
It started after a great days running racing pretty hard with some mates.
At the end of the day it started playing up. Problem persisted with the engine swap.
Iím am at a loss to whatís going on.
Fuel lines are good, cap is clear.
I will drop into Rems RC in hoppers crossing tomorrow and see if Dean can help.

What sort of condition is you carby in mate? I had an issue years ago when running a baja, it would run fine for a bit but then die when I backed off the throttle.

Hope you sort it out.

Cheers Dave.

 Thanks Dave,
I did swap the carbs over, new fuel lines and clunker.
Went into Rems RC, Dean seemed to think the tune was out of whack, I have my doubts.
After he played with the carb, It seemed to run well, I didn't have it going long enough to test properly.
I have bigger problems now though, bigger pinion and smaller pinion installed for higher top speed, test hit Tuesday night on the road at a mates after too many beers, the car was flying.....and under a car it went!
I now need a chassis and some front end parts!
I am an idiot.

Could also be that your throttle linkage isn't set properly... If the butterfly on the carb is open a bit through the adjustment of the linkage, it will run and drive fine but when you decelerate or brake will shut the butterfly and stall your car...
So make sure the linkage is set right and then readjust your idle...
Good starting point for needle settings in case your curious or want to reset back to normal is 1 1/2H (high speed needle) and 1 1/4L (Low speed needle). These are turns open from fully shut... Also if you close the needles, don't overtighten as you'll more than likely snap the end off the needles...

Hope this helps...
