Looks a bit complex.

Do you have to give all the marshals a starter?

I wonder if the rules will be rewritten to make these legal? Because as far as i am aware, they need a manual starter.

Yep Dan
Must be pull start thumbsup . Perhaps they could be allowed but a motor stoppage would mean car removed to safety and all over for the car dontknow ^screwy*
I note the page containing that rule on the AARCMCC site will not download dontknow ^screwy* If other manufacturers follow there could be many different starters needed dontknow ^screwy* bang head

after i posted that last night, i re-read the rules, and it looks like the ruling that specified that the motor had to be manually started has been removed, maybe for this car? dontknow. Although, even if it was, racing with half a dozen starters would be a punish, especially since you would need to instruct every marshal on how to use them in the event your car stalled.

I guess you could argue that the engine is still a pull start engine... without the pull start... If the car stalls, it would be the drivers responsibility to restart... Be interesting to see how the rules will be interpreted for this... Still the car looks mint...

hey buddys !!

Few infos about the 4wd Buggy ...

I copied it out from Fb :

HERE IT IS!!! A first look at the new 4WD buggy from Elcon Models! This is still a functional prototype and racing in the Netherlands today. Just to get more and more in-depth insights about the performance and reliability of this 1/6 4WD Buggy. We will share a report later :-)

As you can see on the pictures the car will be completely different as we are used to as Largescale enthusiasts. First priority of this new car was to design a innovative drivetrain which will give you better throttle control and make it more reliable. This car is a functional prototype so there is still some work to do. Most important: we are blown away about it's performance during testing (even with a non-tuned 26cc engine) so it will be even better when it is ready for all of you!

Some highlights and explanations:

Planetary gears:
We have chosen planetary gears for the drivetrain. The amount of power the engine delivers is now transferred more efficient to all four wheels with less energy. You will get a much more responsive car with the use of these revolutionary Planetary gears!

Dual Clutch setup:
The two clutches will give you 2 huge benefits. First the wear of the clutch shoes is minimalized. The other benefit is that you are able to adjust the amount of front and rear traction separately. For racing a must!

Weight reduction:
With the current design of this prototype we have achieved a weight loss of 2lbs compared to the Elcon Imp4ct. This will change the car characteristics completely. Not only faster but also much better braking capabilities since you have less mass and weight to move.

No Pull starter:
One of the biggest frustrations of a 2-stroke racer (or basher) is the vulnerability of the pull starter. The rope snaps often or the starter will not touch the flywheel due to sand and dust. We have solved this issue and will start the engine with a special designed tool. The design of the car will give you a good entrance to the starter without removing the body or wheels.

The car does look very nice and lots of shiny bits, but a completely different starter, surely this will be pricey compared to the traditional pullstarts? has there been prices issued for the new car and starter setup?

In all honesty though, would proper maintenance and setup of a traditional pullstarter setup also be a good option?

Cheers Dave.

Specially designed starter = expensive

It's not exactly a specially designed starter, just the end that fits onto the starter.... The stater itself looks like one used to start Nitro Helis

it will be interesting to see how this car is received by aarcmcc, will they change or wont they? as currently the car doesn't meet the rules to race here.

It would be crazy not to change the rules.... Any thing to keep the sport moving forward! A new car is on the market and WE need to have it fit into our racing scene

The EFFRA L.S. rule 4.1.2 ( I think I got it right) has allowed electric starters since 2016 but only in pits or pit lane. Allowing wider use is where the problem is likely to be dontknow interesting times ahead

I don't really see a problem with electric starters as it's not the marshalls responsibility to restart cars on the track. 1/5 engine's rarely stall, if car does stall on the track it's usually because it has a issue that restarting on the track won't correct and it will most likely stall again.

If the car was to stall on the track, then to restart the vehicle requires this tool, this will take precious time to get the car back to pit lane, restart it and then get back on the track. Otherwise they would need a personal marshall with the tool, that can cause a whole bunch more issues.

I guess at the end of the day, if the rules are rewritten, my question would be, why is an electric starter ok now, when prior the ruling has been that it wasnt. (Aka killer rc powerstarter for baja?). Where does it end? Are you then allowed to have remote onboard starter systems aka losi r.o.s.s?
I mean I understand our rules are very fluid and they need to adapt to include new vehicles, but why do we have to wait for it to come out on a vehicle before it is allowed? It may just be mee seeing it incorrectly but thats how im seeing it

    [ol]

      • 6.1.4  Cars being marshalled

When a vehicle is being marshalled, the driver must have the brakes on. The marshal will only then correct your car. When the cars are in ready position, marshal will lift his or her hand up to signal the driver that it is safe to drive. Marshal can, but is not responsible to restart the engine if stalled.

      [ol]

        • 7.2  Attending to breakdown

Mechanics are allowed to enter the track to retrieve the car of their driver, the mechanic may restart the engine (3x) behind the marshalling barrier, a steering arm can be clicked back on a ball end all other repairs are to be carried out at pit lane where the cars can re-enter the race in a safe manner.

Hey guys, I have been reading what has been said so far and people's opinions etc.

Now if you were to follow the rules to the letter, the way the new car is started in not a conventional Pullstart, so technically, is does meet the current rules.

In any Hobby, is it always great for new item, brands, models etc to come along ( it's all part of progression ), it's how the hobby grows and no one can deny that, but I will say that it needs to be fare and the same needs to be afforded to any brand or manufacturer that wants to bring change.

I can see it will be quite awkward to restart the car if it stalls, but that is on the driver and his decision to run that kind of starter and he has to work out how that is done.

    Cheers Dave.

Dan, we wait for it to come out on a new vehicle before the rules are changed because no one would ever have thought it would have been designed into a factory built car...

All the other vehicles come out with or can easily have a pull start on the car!

    This new Elcon canít!
