Any Skopod 62cc users here?
« on: September 26, 2015, 05:01:12 AM »
if you owned one - please tell me about your experience.

Sorry for asking a very old question. I know that it is a very old engine and was discussed over million times...
Could not find any users in Russia. No information about big engines in Russian at all.

Does it have any problems in stock?
What upgrades are recommended?
Is it suitable for hard bashing (jumping, etc)? - all videos I saw - Losi or baja riding in a flat green grass...

I think the only real issue will be starting, from wat I here there a pain in the ass.
In a Baja you'll be right with a drill starter or cart starter, being you have a losi a cart starter is the only option open for ya.

Best bet is to talk to Craig991, hes just about the only fan boy on here for skopod.

One thing you will find out is that these big bores arent made for jumping, the weight of these engines throws the car out of balance to much and plus do you really want to risk jumping with such an expensive engine.

My opinion is the skopod is to Old and they really dont produce much more power than a worked 30.5, if i was you i would look at getting an RC40 or RC50, both those engines would eat a skopod for breakfast.

Thanks for your answer. It looks like my worst fears are true. No bashing and not enough power...
RC40 and RC50 are great, but they cost really too much. And if I order one - I'll have too big customs fee to pay...
Skopod is the only engine that I can order without paying taxes because it is under $1000...
Really I don't know what to do from that point - order a repair kit for my OBR, or get a stock zenoah 320 or try to find a used engine on ebay or forums...

Must admit the engine i had which was built by Craig#991 and plenty spent on it went good even though i never saw the full potential, never had a problem starting the engine, i had a cart starter  thumbsup  , every one has an opinion about different engines, i loved the skopod 62 full mod with high comp head, this is the thread i started when i first took ownership, headbang .

Thanks for your posts,
Big bores are heavy and are extremely expensive. I can get a russian 1:1 car for the price of rc50...

I summarized all info I got here - I'll get a RoosterTail Reed Engine. Performs pretty good, don't changes centre of gravity - will bash and jump as usual.
I'll use OBR for experiments and future projects.

I'd be getting Damo to build you a rooster tail G340 reed case. There's a few reed cases getting round for the G320. I've got the Scott Finlay G320 reed case that I'm planning on sending to Damo to build me a 34cc full mod for my dbxl when I have enough money to do it.

That would probably be your best bet I reckon.

I wouldn't mind having a 62cc too but the Skopod engine was just way overpriced when it was introduced. That's why I never got one back then. It has a lot of potential and is lightweight.

Problem nowadays is that these big engines are too heavy and once the car itself is loaded with them plus all the other accessories and necessities then those cars can mostly only be used for fast runs on level surface. Kind of takes a big part of the fun away.

I think that an engine, any engine, that fits neatly inside a 5B Baja with only minor mods is a potential engine for larger amount of users. And why a 5B? Well, the space is very limited so it creates the biggest challenges. Other thing about the 5B is that it still seems to be the basher's choice to have fun with in many cases. 4WD cars usually have other purposes of use like track use or racing.

I remember long ago there was a twin pipe setup for 26-30,5 engines which was not very well designed and way too big for these smaller engines. It just might work with a 62 with a bigger flange and the Y-header. That way you would not have an enormous pipe over and around the car itself and maybe the 5B could still be used for all the purposes it was designed for.
