My Baja 5b (updated, now a truck)
« on: October 06, 2014, 01:58:46 PM »
Well after my intro thread a few weeks back, "New to the disease"  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
I thought I would update how things are going with the thrashing and bashing.

I had a wheel nut go loose on me and before I realised it had stripped the inside of the rim out. D'oh

But my current lack of action is down to snapped pin on the end of a drive shaft.

I have also noticed some cracking around the fan cover and some broken fins on the fly wheel. Will I have to replace that straight away or can it wait until the motor needs a tidy up?

Anyway here's the pics so you can see what I mean.

Cheers,
Dave.

You have there the typical issues that happen with a Baja
The Driveshaft Boots keep a bag spare !
As for your flywheel cover get a brace kit theres a few alloy bits and pieces that will stop this happening.

Get a gbe engine mount and relpace the engine cover it is a intergral part of the structure so more damage will transfer somwhere else.

I got this just after xmas, finally got around to mounting it up. I didn't feel like painting so I have wrapped it for the time being.

The wider track and the different wheels have turned it into a different car to drive now. Less spinning out and roll overs.

Cheers,
Dave.

Bit of an update, not much of the old original girl left. In 20 months I've pretty much swapped out or upgraded everything on the 5b.

She's been joined by a few more bajas and the losi.

Some recent pics of the whole fleet.

Nice looking Baja! I can see you don't have the Fuel adapter system in place, how do you find the refueling process with the cage?

I did have the whole Kraken fuel piping system mounted and the associated fueler.....but the ol funnel and fuel can is less hassle. The kraken gear is sitting on the shelf.

The old girl has got a new engine, a rcmk300b.

Still messing around with tuning but it certainly has a bit more go than before  with the 29.

The CPI pipe was a bit tight on the fins, may have to dremel a bit more off to get more clearance.

Keep an eye on the heat with that version of engine. I had one and started to get a bit hot in a 5B. You can convert it to fan forced if needed.

The CPI pipe goes well on the RCMK once you grind off enough of the fins to clear it.

Hi Damian,

Whats involved with the conversion?

It seems heat is the issue with mine , I get 5 mins of fun then the tune goes to shite.

Cheers,
Dave.
